Séminaire / Recherche
Le 19 mai 2026
Saint-Martin-d'Hères - MSH-Alpes
Séminaire organisé par l'IPhiG.
Intervenant : Pr. Clare Mac Cumhaill de l'université de Durham (UK).
La séance sera organisée autour de la discussion de son article "Anscombe and the 'Reach' of the Mind".
How are action and perception related? In this talk, I focus on one case: the relation as it shows up in G.E.M. Anscombe’s 1957 Intention. I assemble some archival materials which show that Anscombe was engaging with some then current psychical research. In light of these sources, I show that her notorious claim that our knowledge of what we are intentionally doing is non-observational can be given a fresh spin. I explain why this should be of interest to contemporary philosophers of mind, action and normative ethics.
